Grande épave

Engraving is a process made from a copper plate. It is covered with a so-called "soft" varnish which is left to dry. In this varnish, the drawing of the engraving is carried out with a point which will therefore remove the varnish in certain places.

Then we immerse the plate in a mixture of water and acid. In the places where the varnish is removed the plate will widen under the effect of the acid bath. The plate is then ready for the prints. Inking is necessary between each print. After the various tests (artist's proofs), 10 to 15 copies are produced.
